Easy Homemade Bisquick Mix Recipe

You can make so many different things with this homemade Bisquick mix, from pancakes, to biscuits, to strawberry shortcake! These are just a couple of my favorite homemade Bisquick recipes. There’s no need to buy the boxed version when you can make your own Bisquick mix substitute, that makes the richest, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits!

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make Homemade Bisquick Mix?

The best part about this recipe is that it’s made out of ingredients you probably already have in the pantry! 

I love that you can make this mix ahead of time and refrigerate it for up to three months. It’s just as convenient as the box mix from the store.

This is such an easy recipe! Plus, it’s a great pantry staple and if you put it in an airtight container or vacuum seal it, it’ll last a long time, well, unless you’re making a lot of biscuits. Which, who wouldn’t be!

Seriously, this homemade premade baking mix is better, and you don’t have to deal with all the chemical stabilizers.

How to Make Homemade Bisquick Mix 

This Homemade Bisquick Recipe

  • Makes: 3 ½ cups
  • Prep Time: 10 min

You don’t need any fancy equipment for this copycat Bisquick mix recipe! All you need is a mixing bowl, a whisk, a fork or a pastry blender, and an airtight storage container.

Mix all your dry ingredients to make your Homemade Bisquick Mix
Start with all of your dry ingredients.

Step 1

Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add your Homemade Bisquick Mix to a bowl and cut in with a butter cutter cold butter
Using a fork or pastry blender, fold the slices of butter into the mix.

Step 2

Cut butter into flour mixture using a pastry blender or fork.

Put your Homemade Bisquick Mix in a jar and pour it into a measuring cup when you're ready to use it

Food Processor Method for Homemade Bisquick Mix

If you prefer, you can easily make this Bisquick mix substitute with a food processor.

Step 1

Add flour, baking powder and salt to food processor.

Step 2

Pulse to combine.

Step 3

Add butter and pulse until mixture is coarse and resembles cornmeal.

Step 4

Transfer to airtight container and store in refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Slice your leftover biscuits before freezing them so that they are easier to thaw and prepare!

How to Make Biscuits From Homemade Bisquick Mix

There are tons of recipes made with Bisquick mix, but biscuits are my favorite. They are so versatile and can be served with breakfast as breakfast sandwiches, or biscuits with jelly, or even served with soup or a meal for lunch and dinner!

This Homemade Biscuits Recipe

  • Makes 8 biscuits if you use a 2.5 inch cutter

Ingredients Needed For Homemade Biscuits

  • 1 ½ cups homemade Bisquick mix
  • ½ cup milk

Step 1

Lightly spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Step 3

Combine ingredients in a medium bowl until soft dough forms.

Step 4

Knead dough until well combined.

Any circular cookie cutter works, but I cannot say enough about the cookie cutters with handles!

Step 5

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out with a rolling pin to about ½ inch thick and cut with a round cookie cutter.

Step 6

Alternatively, drop by tablespoons onto greased baking sheet.

Step 7

Bake for 7-9 minutes or until golden brown.

Note:

Let your unsalted butter or salted butter sit at room temperature if you want it to be able to spread easily.

Don’t let gluten allergies stop you from making your own gluten free Bisquick mix.

How Do I Make Gluten Free Bisquick Mix and Gluten Free Biscuits?

This is a simple substitution! Just use gluten free all-purpose flour, and make sure that your baking powder is also gluten free. That’s it, and it is most likely cheaper than buying the gluten free boxed Bisquick mix in the store!

Tips: It may be temping to try to use vegetable oil instead of cold small pieces of butter, but the butter is what makes the biscuits so flakey and delicious. It’s similar to making a pie crust

In order to make your homemade Bisquick mix vegan, you will need to use vegan butter and a plant-based milk–such as almond milk or rice milk.
